Yes, there was always that danger.

unfortunately, by my timezone the message came in at 0249 on the 2nd, making
the OP the fool. IF that is the case. Do we need to ignore all posts from
0000 NZ to 1200 Hawaii, 1 April? Personally, I think people should have
better things to do with their time, possibly joking with friends.

It is highly likely that you could have fixed the problem without
re-installing Windows. Unfortunately you chose not to enter into a technical
discussion that might have resulted in several helpful suggestions.

This wasn't just a corrupt config.sys file. It was a drive that was
failing. There were other system files damaged.
It got to the point that the server would just reboot over and over... even
in Recovery Console. So at that point I had no other but to re-install.
