I have had an issue come up where I have renamed a user in AD. Now in
outlook when other users on the domain start typing the new users name into
the to field the old user's suggested nickname starts to appear. Is there a
way to change this to the new username?

That's in the users outlook .NK2 cache file. Easiest is to train them to
delete old entries by cursoring down to them (when preseted with the list)
and hitting DEL.

When the old name appears, the user can down arrow to highlight that, and
then hit the DEL key to delete it.

Then they will need to type in the new name correctly--and once that has
been done once, the old one should no longer show up, and the new one
should...

It's not that it takes it from AD, rather that if there is a match to ANY of the address lists, whether it be the GAL or a local contact list, it will associate it based on the Display Name. Check the user's local contacts. Check the renamed account in AD. Also, if Outlook is set to Cached Mode, it may take up to two weeks (depending on the size of the infrastructure), to update the GAL to the latest display names or additions.

I am still having trouble with this and want some more explination. Here is
an example od what I did:

1. renamed user1 to user2 in active directory(checked all tabs to make sure
all instances of username was changed)
2. created a temp user in AD
3. logged in to computer that was just joined to domain as temp(new
computer - never used before)
4. setup outlook - not in cached mode
5. sent user2 an email from temp account
6. sent user2 another email

In step 6 when typing user2 into to field it displayed user1 as suggestion.
Where is it getting the user1 name? Is there anything that can be changed
to make it show user2?
