From: Theo Markettos on 3 Feb 2010 08:29 There seem to be lots of obscure dual SIM phones around. Does anyone have any experience with them? I'm interested in a phone that: Will operate with two SIMs at the same time - make and receive calls and texts on both. So a phone with two radios, not one radio and a switch. Just a basic phone - no need for touchscreens, or 3G, or web browser, or music player or... (in fact, a nice big keypad is useful) Reasonably robust Would be good if it uses commonly-available batteries (not some obscure type only found in China). Decent battery life is a plus. Instructions not written in Chinglish GSM900/1800 In other words, something a bit like a Nokia 1- or 2-series but dual SIM. Any ideas? Thanks Theo

(Even if they do have a 'propitiatory' OS :) The Sigmatel S9000 looks more like the sort of thing: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180447114844 but the software is everything, and I have no idea if it's any good. And, in common with many Chinese phones, I can't seem to find any feedback on the web. Theo

Well if you can wait, I'll let you know what it's like when I get mine. ;-) I need a small twin sim phone for running as I find a lot of coverage problems with single networks on my longer runs. This'll be dead handy if it works. Tim

Sigmatel have a website: http://www.fxd.cc/en/index.asp but it's entirely useless One other problem I discovered about Chinese phones is 'genuine IMEI'. Apparently some are shipped with IMEIs allocated to other manufacturers, and this gets them cut off by Indian networks. I'm not sure if this applies to the UK. <Pokes a bit further> Looks like Sigmatel's reflashing software (for the 9300 is on their website) will reprogram the IMEI to whatever you like. That's illegal in the UK, but I wonder if it's possible to make sure you have a genuine IMEI before you activate the phone. Hmm... the front page of: http://www.fxd.cc/ mentions something about copies with illegal IMEIs. They claim they're now doing things properly. Might be worth trying to check out the IMEI before you buy. Theo
