google shows that v6 came out about 2001 so it should be, but avoiding
norton is by far the best option.

In general, now-a-days, yes, but I recall that Speed Disk used to be a
pretty good disk optimizer back in pre-X versions of Mac OS.

Actually, even after Norton Disk Doctor turned toxic, concurrent
versions of Speed Disk continued to work properly.

I suspect that the OP's problem is that one of the files itself is
hosed.

I keep my backups of Speed Disk for just this reason.

i do too, except that it was my own drive. it was 8.5 or 9.x time frame.
