Hello Lassiter,

Thanks for your post and Larry's input.

It seems there is something wrong with the network connection between the SBS server and your default gateway. Please describe your network topology in more details such
as how did you connect your SBS server to the router and to the Internet.

At this point, if you haven't tried, please first go through the follow KB and Rerun CEICW again carefully.

How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server 2003
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825763/en-us>

Detailed steps for your reference:

a. Open Server Management.
b. Click To Do List.
c. Click Connect to the Internet.
d. Proceed to the "Firewall" page and select "Enable Firewall".
e. On the "Services Configuration" page, make sure that "E-mail" service has been checked.
f. On the "Web Services Configuration" page, check the web services that you want to publish.
g. On the "Web Server Certificate" page, choose "Create a new Web server certificate" and key in your public domain name in the box.
h. On the "Internet E-mail" page, choose "Enable Internet e-mail".
i. On the "E-mail Delivery Method" page, choose DNS (Use DNS to route e-mail) or Smart Host (Forward all e-mail to e-mail server at your ISP) to route your email, If you select
smart host, you need to input the IP address of your smart host.
j. Key in your e-mail domain name in "Email Domain Name" page.
k. Finish the wizard.

If the issue persists, please run "Ipconfig /all" and post back the results for our further research.

Hope this helps.

thanks Robbin for your reply. Sorry for the delay but I'm not at the server
location enough :-(

Regarding running CEICW - I did this and it now has eliminated all web
browser access ie. http. We do have client access to the server for file
sharing still... so the intranet part is fine.

We have a 2 NIC setup and since I can't copy the output of "ipconfig /all"
here is what the general settings are:

LAN Adapter:
DHCP Enabled: no
IP Address: our local DHCP server - 192.168.1.250
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: blank
DNS: 192.168.1.250
WINS: 192.168.1.250

Network Adapter:
DHCP Enabled: no
IP Address: Fixed IP from dsl ISP provider
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: blank (don't know why this is blank when I have the local
router IP address, 192.168.1.1, entered and showing in the card settings)
DNS: 192.168.1.250
Netbios over TCPIP: disabled

I do have internet on the linksys router because when I connect a laptop
direct to it I can browse the web. This makes me believe it's not the router
setup and more of a server setting or a server service blocking internet?

I have configured the router with all the fixed IP settings given to me by
our ISP and done needed port forwarding to our server 192.168.1.250

Our router is plugged into the network adapter on the server and the LAN
adapter on the server is plugged into our switch feeding the rest of the
clients.

I have also updated the network adapter's drivers today witch did not seem
to help.

Any more suggestions? or am I configuring something wrong here? thanks

Hello Lassiter,

Thanks you for your reply and the information.

However, I am very sure how did you connect the SBS to the Internet with your two NIC? Did the external NIC have internet public IP address? Is the router put in front of the SBS server and serve as
DHCP or DNS server?

To double confirm, please make sure you have followed the " Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard Options" part of the article:

How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825763/en-us

Note, please choose the right option according to your own NIC scenarios. Option 1 to 4 are for Two network adapters.

Hope this helps.

to produce a usable copy of cmd prompt commands you can add the "output to
file" switch, as follows:

ipconfig /all > c:\iptest.txt

which will place the output in a file called iptest.txt on the root of your
C drive. You can then open the file with Notepad and copy the contents to
post, should you wish to.

The edge device on you network is apparantly the Linksys router. The cable
modem/dsl modem/whatever is the entry device on your ISP network. If that
is not correct, please let us know what is the termination point for the
ISP and the entry point for your network.

Those two need to be connected with a cable from the ISP device to the WAN
port on your Linksys, which should be configured with all the settings given
to you by your isp, preferably static, but not necessary for this discussion.

The second nic on the SBS should be connected to the LAN port on the Linksys,
and those two devices should have static ip's and be in the same subnet as
each other, different from either the ISP subnet or the SBS subnet.

The router should NOT be issuing DHCP addresses, because if the SBS can see
it, the DHCP server on the SBS will shut down, not a good thing.

In Summary:

Cloud - ISP - isp device - router - sbs2 - sbs1 - switch - workstations

or, from an IP view:

unknown - unknown - config by isp - public ip info from isp - 192.168.61.1
- 192.168.61.2 - 192.168.16.2 - switch - SBS DHCP assigned in range of 192.168.16.xx

Notice the ip change on SBS2 and SBS1 from .61.x to .16.x. I do this becuase
it is easy to remember, but you can use any third octect numbers you wish.
Note also that 0 and 1 in the third postion are usually found on home edge
devices and therefore it is best to avoid those.

If you change ip addresses on the nics in in the SBS, please use the wizards.

Port forwards must be done from the router to sbs2 nic, as that is the one
connected to the router.
