A few days ago the exchange server stopped sending mail to certain addresses. The company is able to communicate with me and some others but for the rest they get rejected or it states delayed. Here is an example; __________________________________________________________________________________________________ Jane Doe An error occurred while trying to deliver this message to the recipient's e-mail address. Microsoft Exchange will not try to redeliver this message for you. Please try resending this message, or provide the following diagnostic text to your system administrator. The following organization rejected your message: col0-mc1-f25.Col0.hotmail.com. __________________________________________________________________________________________________ They have been able to send to the user "Jane Doe" in the past but for some reason it gets rejected now. I have cleared the queue thinking there was something stuck but that did not help. At first I thought it was because they don't have an SSL cert but I have other clients who don'e have an SSL and they are working fine. Any thoughts?
From: Tim H on 28 Apr 2010 19:58 I agree. Can you or someone out there point me in the direction for setting up a smart host. I guess it is time I set one up and get a better understanding of it. Do I just contact the ISP? I am also interested in Google's postini. If you need authentication, do this first, then you'll need to dig deeper into the SMTP virtual connector in Exchange. You can find more discussion on the subject with Mr Google's help. Your ISP account may include a smarthost, or may not. If not, many companies offer it. It's likely to be easier with your ISP, as they will provide more help and you may not need authentication, which is sometimes not trivial. You will certainly need authentication with anyone else's smarthost, as you won't be connecting through their own network. -- Joe
From: Tim H on 29 Apr 2010 09:23 You say "here's a basic setup" but you don't tell me anything but to call the ISP. Is that all there is to setting up a smart host? Does anyone have any links they can share where I can read more about the setup process. Thanks.
