From: jad on 28 Apr 2010 09:26 Hi Have an SBS 2003 network with XP clients. Have new laptop which is running windows 7 pro I have downloaded KB 926505 and installed on the server. I have tried to connect via http://server01/connectcomputer but I get so far and then: an error occurred when configuring networking settings see your nework administrator I have manually input the IP and DG etc on the NIC and tried to manually connect - no luck there either I ahve tried to go back to the work group and then attempt connection again - no luck Is there a straight forward guide to this? Am I missing something Many posts on the net suggest the only way forward is to reinstall win 7 and start again??? thanks!

Did you install the updates on the server for Group Policy, also on the win 7 boxes? Do you have your SBS 2003 DHCP and DNS properly running and setup? Your Win 7 machine should be on the SBS 2003 network, be getting DHCP assigned address and should ONLY use the SBS 2003 server for DNS. It appears that either you have DHCP or DNS misconfigured on the SBS box or that you're not properly using SBS as the ONLY DNS SERVER in your network - it should also be the only DHCP server in your network. -- You can't trust your best friends, your five senses, only the little voice inside you that most civilians don't even hear -- Listen to that. From: jad on 28 Apr 2010 10:02 Hi there and thanks for your reply I haven't loaded on any other updates other than 926505 - do you have the KB number or link?? The server is set up for auto patching (although the 926505 wasn't installed) DHCP and DNS is fine - I only manually configured the win 7 workstation because I couldn;t get it connected - will correct back to auto on the workstation Will try again and revert thanks again "Leythos" <spam999free(a)rrohio.com> wrote in message news:MPG.2642033bf0c1660d98a310(a)us.news.astraweb.com... > In article <##g06Zt5KHA.5548(a)TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl>, > noreply(a)newsgroup.com says... >> Have an SBS 2003 network with XP clients. >> Have new laptop which is running windows 7 pro >> >> I have downloaded KB 926505 and installed on the server. >> I have tried to connect via http://server01/connectcomputer but I get so >> far >> and then: >> an error occurred when configuring networking settings see your nework >> administrator >> >> I have manually input the IP and DG etc on the NIC and tried to manually >> connect - no luck there either >> > > I'm running 7 on multiple 2003 servers... > > Did you install the updates on the server for Group Policy, also on the > win 7 boxes? > > Do you have your SBS 2003 DHCP and DNS properly running and setup? > > Your Win 7 machine should be on the SBS 2003 network, be getting DHCP > assigned address and should ONLY use the SBS 2003 server for DNS. > > It appears that either you have DHCP or DNS misconfigured on the SBS box > or that you're not properly using SBS as the ONLY DNS SERVER in your > network - it should also be the only DHCP server in your network. > > -- > You can't trust your best friends, your five senses, only the little > voice inside you that most civilians don't even hear -- Listen to that. > Trust yourself. > spam999free(a)rrohio.com (remove 999 for proper email address)

From: jad on 3 May 2010 08:54 Hi there just to confirm with you what has happenned - I spent 4 hours removing from the domain, then adding again. Manually adding, using the wizard - it drove me mad. I then phoned Dell for some moral support - we then spent 1.5 hours rechecking everything and attempting to add to the domian - still no luck We then added a computer to the OU via AD. Then for some reason - we were manually able to join the domain. There is no apparent reason for this! Just happy now that we have sorted it out!!! thanks for your help "Leythos" <spam999free(a)rrohio.com> wrote in message news:MPG.264226f01801f90098a311(a)us.news.astraweb.com... > In article <eoKVPut5KHA.980(a)TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl>, noreply(a)newsgroup.com > says... >> >> Hi there and thanks for your reply >> >> I haven't loaded on any other updates other than 926505 - do you have the >> KB >> number or link??
