I have become increasingly concerned that there has been no update to
Hogwasher in several years. Because of that I am giving Unison (the
recent version 2 release) a look. The one feature of Hogwasher I feel I
will miss is the graphic thread display. I'm curious as to whether
others have made a switch from Hogwasher to Unison, and how the
experience has been to them.

MacSOUP, which I use, also has a graphic thread display, and this is the
feature I would least like to give up.

My list is probably completely different form his. For a start, mine is
much older. But I think I see a similarity in theme.

The following is directly copied from my own notes to myself on my
evaluation of Unison. I wasn't sure I still had this around, but I
appear to. This was 5 years ago. I'm sure things have changed since
then. The specific issues are quite likely to have been fixed. But the
underlying philosophy seems unlikely to have changed - that the stuff I
consider fundamental, they seem to treat as an afterthought.

Unison. Tried v 1.5.2 on 23 Nov 04.
Commercial. Costs $25.

Emphasis looks like it is on fluff that I don't use,
such as music files, instead of basics. Hmm. That's
exactly what some 3rd party comments say.

Keeping track of read messages at all seems to have been
a recent afterthought addition, and the option to mark a
message as unread seems not to do anything.

I never tried posting, but I'm slightly concerned about the
lack of mention of fundamental posting issues like whether
it sends plain text "reasonably".

No searching facilities that I noticed.

How does that differ from the one in Thunderbird?

I tried Unison and didn't like it, but it was
so long ago that I don't remember why.

There's a new version. You might want to try it out and see what you
think.
