Hello, Group,

The night before last I was transferring a large file to my Netac Onlydisk
16 GB flash drive when the power to the house went out. It was only about
two seconds, but that was enough to bollix the drive. It now reports 16 GB
RAW and will not format under Windows. I've also tried to format under
Linux, but it will not accept a disklabel. I wrote to Netac and they very
kindly sent me a formatting utility that doesn't work. I'm stuck. I was
wondering if anyone in the group is aware of a freeware low level format
tool that I might try on this flash drive. I'll appreciate all suggestions.

Since you are aware of Linux you might give the instructions found at
http://blog.dotkam.com/2008/07/10/restoreformat-usb-flash-drive/ a try if
you have not already done so.

Go into disk management and see if you can delete the drive and start over.

if not, time to replace it

If you can see the device under GPartEd, you can try to format it.

Unmount the flash drive, choose Format To and your menu choice.

I would rather use GPartEd than the HP formatter that everyone loves
SP27608.exe

Oooh! Nice little fdisk tutorial. I'm marking that. The blogger also
has an accompanying page to supplement the other
http://blog.dotkam.com/2009/01/06/find-usb-flash-drive-device-in-linux/
"... they had a very constructive critique that one thing the guide
missed was how to actually find which device to restore / format. -
Hence I decided to write a new little 2 step "how to" that will teach
you just that."
