I use Thunderbird, though it's far from the best usenet client, I prefer to keep mail and news together, others prefer the opposite, I used to use Agent (I gather the free version is discontinued), there's lots of choice http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Usenet_newsreaders You'll also need an account on a news server, your ISP may provide one, but they're more likely to have closed it down or outsourced it nowadays, there are paid 3rd party or free ones available. if you want a starting point for a decent server (where payment is optional) look at eternal-september.org Apologies if I came across as sniffy, you seemed like you were criticising {welcome} for doing nothing out of the ordinary.
