Makes a difference whether it's elemental Hg or as some compound of it.

That should cover "dangerous form".

There's something very like that installed at the old fire station in
Livermore, CA.

The one bulb in the fixture was installed sometime ca 1901, and it was
still working the last time I checked.

I had one start smoking and yes, the fumes were terrible. I caught it
before it could probably catch on fire. It was quite warm. It was a GE
bulb, made in China, UL Listed. I returned a pack of 8 of the same type
of GE bulbs. The only fluorescent I have are in the kitchen of my
apartment. The 4 foot long ones overhead and a smaller unit above the
sink. But they both use a more normal sized ballast instead of the
compact ones in CFLs.
