Thanks I will search those forums for an answer btw I received the phone
this morning, it certainly looks brand new and I can access the phone with
the Orange payg sim and it is in roaming mode connecting to Sure Cable &
Wireless Jersey. This is a good thing as the phone is not on the latest
version of the ROM so I am going to do a ROM upgrade and will need access to
the phone to carry out that procedure.

I decided that I could not be bothered to spend time searching the forums at
xda developers and bought an unlock code from eBay for 6.50. It will be
delivered by post within a couple of days. In the meantime I have
successfully updated the ROM to the latest version which allows unlocking
with a code see here http://www.unlockingarena.com/ which was not possible
with the older ROMs. The only problem was that I could not get the phone
updated under Windows 7 64bit I got the Error 170 and after googling found
out it is because of Windows 7 64bit so I used my netbook running Windows 7
32bit and was able to update the ROM.

They actually emailed me the code and I have now successfully unlocked the

I have got the hang of using the Hero and I have to say I am very impressed,
I also have a HTC Touch Diamond 2 since May last year which is a similar
phone on specification but runs the Windows Mobile 6.5 OS. I loved that
phone and never thought I would switch to Android but decided to try it and
see. I find the Android phone does everything my Windows Mobile phone does
but it is a lot easier to use the Windows Mobile 6.5 with regard to the
touchscreen, with Windows Mobile I find I am accidently touching things when
I do not want too and that I have too use the stylus from time to time, with
the Hero I never accidently touch something and its a joy to use. The only
thing I miss from Windows Mobile is Messenger (but I hardly used that) and
the 800*480 resolution, but viewing web pages on the Hero 320*480 screen is
good because there is a trackball which allows you to scroll around the
page, on the Touch Diamond 2 you have to use a finger. Overall I am
surprised how much I like the Hero over the Touch Diamond 2 and am only
sorry I did not buy into Android before.
