I presumed that someone called "Ben (or Bin) Shimmin" would probably be
Jewish, but apparently Shimmin is Manx rather than Hebrew.

Because that's how you tell a Kiwi from a Kanga. 'Bin' and 'Bayn'.

You are most certainly not the first to make that presumption, and no
doubt you will not be the last.

Shimmin is amongst the most common of Manx surnames, I think, and means
`son of little Simon'.

`Benjamin' means something like `son of my right hand' in Hebrew.
(I'd rather have been a Benedict, to be honest, but you've got to work
with what you're given, I suppose.)
