Yes, we have another lower spec Optiplex full tower next door and that is very nice. I am not willing to go to the Precision line if possible, mainly because I don't use any of the real certified apps on that. I was looking mainly at Optiplex, XPS or Inspiron. Thanks. Andrew.

I just migrated from an XPS410 to a Studio XPS9000 - they both seem pretty quiet to me. The 9000, especially, is a high end machine with an i7 975 EE processor, EVGA (NVIDIA) 275 video card, 12 GB of memory, 4 internal HDDs, a BD-ROM/DVD-burner, etc. The tower is on the desk, but behind the monitor (don't know if that blocks any sound). Running Win7 64-bit on both.
From: WSZsr on 6 May 2010 19:23 My XPS 435/9000 is dead silent and a real screamer. Built like a tank. Highly recommended. Hi! I do think that an OptiPlex is probably the way to go. Good build quality, good configurability and even the new ones seem very quiet. William |
