Provided you let the automatic system maintenance routines run. the permissions for /var/log/secure.log are set according to the specification in /private/etc/newsyslog.conf. -- Tom Stiller PGP fingerprint = 5108 DDB2 9761 EDE5 E7E3 7BDA 71ED 6496 99C0 C7CF

Assuming I did not change something inadvertently, the automatic routines should be running. I was also getting an error message about a temp file not being available with Audacity at the same time. I haven't added anything or updated anything in the week before the weirdness started. -- An old friend once said "You don't live on the edge, you're taking up way too much space." Are you running Mozy? Version 1.5.0.9 seems to have that problem on 10.4.11, especially the "Symbolic link ./tmp->private/tmp repaired" error. I've been dealing with Tech Support about it and they're aware of the issue and working on a fix. And Mozy hasn't been backing up. So if you are running Mozy, that could be the problem... Restart & shut down. The problems continued. Then I fixed permissions and the problems went away until I tried to print the next day. Fixed permissions again, etc. etc. I did not shut down or restart, although I did put it to sleep between the time stuff worked and it did not again. -- An old friend once said "You don't live on the edge, you're taking up way too much space."
