It also *doesn't* apply to him, as it's an edge case bug introduced to Ub 9.10 from a deprecation made upstream in Debian testing. Earlier *buntus didn't have it. We both know he hasn't tried anything. Those links came from a Google search, which he then just copy/pasted, in some kind of attempt to show... something or other <shrug>. Most don't even apply to his situation, and those that do are over two years old and have been rendered moot by the progress made in the kernel and in the GUI networking tools now available. Even at that, those same links show that the hardware in question worked going back as far as Dapper Drake, a June 06 release. -- Mark Warner MEPIS Linux Registered Linux User #415318 ...lose .inhibitions when replying

Sure you have, and you continue to. > I still have not got wireless to work on my laptop. Don't forget, you just said it's not something you're trying to do. I doubt you could even if you were trying to, but since you're not trying to, why post about it so many dozens of times? > You are just confused and can't handle it---and way too eager to > troll. I can't predict which lie you're going to contradict yourself with next, but that's not the same thing as confusion. FWIW, my 3945 never gave me trouble until I poured about 20 oz of water through my laptop. At that point, it wouldn't boot, so I don't know if wireless would have been ok. Once it dried out thoroughly, which took over a month, it worked fine again, but by that time I'd bought a laptop with a newer wifi chipset. My current 4965 chipset uses the same iwlwifi driver as the 3945 and gives me no trouble either. Among the things they handle (both chipsets) is WPA2 encryption. At this point you usually ask (again and again) why it doesn't work for you, as if asking that question proves something other than "Bottoms claims he can't use wifi". If you really do have an issue with it you can't resolve, it's probably because you lie so much in every thread you start about the alleged issue.

Even at that, those same links show > that the hardware in question worked going back as far as Dapper > Drake, a June 06 release. That's all true. If he's not a malicious, lying idiot, he's doing an awfully good job of pretending to be one. When he was reminded of his claim that he *did* make his 3945 work, he immediately claimed that encryption didn't work back then; but he made that claim that his 3945 worked months *before* Ubuntu shipped the driver with that edge-case bug. A monkey with a whiteboard could keep better track of his lies to avoid the kind of contradiction. |
