I still have not got good drivers for my laptop (only have 2D) and its modem. And nvidia (fixed now) was a PITA to set up in ubuntu 10.04. But windows has also NEVER worked "out of the box" either. I needed to download drivers to get my wifi working. []'s

To show how little he's learned so far, he's titled this thread "Inspiron versus Linux" when it should be "Bottoms versus Reason".

Nobody asked you to call it "out of the box"; that's a red herring you introduced. > I wouldn't even call it intuitive in any way. A piece of bad firmware shipped with the distro you've chosen, so you need to replace it with the good firmware. If by "intuitive" you mean you expected to solve it by staring at your fingernails, you're right about it being non-intuitive. > I would call it very frustrating until it becomes easy. Unless you skip the step in which you start looking for a solution, it becomes easy immediately.

Earlier, you pointed to that same set of instructions and claimed that they don't work. Now you recognize that they *do* work. You're making progress. > it ain't an "out of the box" remedy. Ah, you were expecting to fix your problem without doing anything at all? Is that the way you fix the Windows problems you encounter? If downloading a single file when you've been spoon-fed a link to it is too much for you to manage, you should give up on running any OS, even ones you think might be "ready for prime time". > So I expect naysayers to acknowledge their errors...or not. I haven't noticed any errors in any of the posts pointing out that you have been lying about this issue in multiple threads.

Then you were incorrect about the alleged problem with wireless on your laptop, and you've just lied about it again. And you snipped the context in order to hide your lying, so I've replaced it. You've spent *far* more time lying about the issue you claim to have than trying to solve it. |
