From: Richard Vaughn on 21 Jul 2010 11:22 I am having a beast of a time time trying to install/config/run the Helix DNA server on a CentOS 5.4 machine. In short: nothing works. Anyone have experience/success with this? Thanks, -Richard Vaughn
From: The Overlord on 21 Jul 2010 14:14 Hmmmmm, I am using CentOS on my laptop. I would recommend installing from source if you haven't tried that already. It will be more difficult but once it is done, it is done. I would recommend using Slackware Linux instead of Centos if you are planning on running a server as Slackware is known to be less buggy and CentOS is designed as an end user operating system. Also, my CentOS has already crashed on me twice. I never had that problem with Slackware! -- The Overlord: "Before you try and impose your idea upon someone else remember that youre an idiot!" dessertjade(a)yahoo.com billy.spiva(a)us.army.mil "Richard Vaughn" <rvaughn9(a)gmail.com> wrote in message news:74e41275-ee0d-43d1-995c-906b89e58082(a)f6g2000yqa.googlegroups.com... >I am having a beast of a time time trying to install/config/run > the Helix DNA server on a CentOS 5.4 machine. > In short: nothing works. > > Anyone have experience/success with this? > > Thanks, > -Richard Vaughn

CentOS is incredibly stable; I have a half-dozen or so CentOS boxes, and there have been zero crashes not attributable to user error in over three years. There is one shred of truth in the above: installing from source, if possible, should work fine. But the OP really needs to provide more (i.e., any) details about what actually failed and what error messages were observed; perhaps installing a package will work fine, and the OP just needs some guidance on how to do it. --keith -- kkeller-usenet(a)wombat.san-francisco.ca.us (try just my userid to email me) AOLSFAQ=http://www.therockgarden.ca/aolsfaq.txt see X- headers for PGP signature information

No issues with the CentOS servers at the NASA contractor sites. -- You can measure a programmer's perspective by noting his attitude on the continuing viability of FORTRAN. -- Alan Perlis <<< Remove YOURSHOES to email me >>>

Or simply use the RPM listed at http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/5781382/dir/centos_5com/HelixPlayer-plugin-1.0.7-5.el5.kb.i386.rpm.html .. www.rpmpbone.net is your friend for finding software RPM's of interesting or obscure software for CentOS and RHEL.
