The older Mac Pros had a system of "risers" and matched pairs requirements. OWC are pretty good with info: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Mac-Pro-Memory I have the oldest Mac Pro in the world, I think. It won't even boot the 64 bit colonel (well, not without a hack), but I've got 10 gigs of RAM all nicely ECC enabled. -- Very old woody beets will never cook tender. -- Fannie Farmer

If possible, I try to get electronic versions of the "Everything Mac" manual that came with the computer. I read in inverse video. To compound the problem, the manual is printed using a gray ink as opposed to black ink. I am also pretty sure that the electronic version I am using is the same as my hard copy. On page 47 the instructions say to fill in the slots in order starting at Slot 1. It implies that there may be a problem if the memory modules are not all of the same size, but they do not offer a solution. I do have a quad core version. While I have no problem with a single 4GB module in Slot 1, I do run into problems upon adding 1GB modules in other slots. It is not clear to me that I can use all my modules to get a total of 7GB. I have been away from this newsgroup for a day or so. In fiddling with RAM I think I reset my router to factory settings. I have not yet fully recovered from that. At least computers keep me from tagging public areas with spray cans. :~) Bill -- An old man would be better off never having been born.

I am not surprised. It is a bummer. Thanks. Bill -- An old man would be better off never having been born.
