Issues with remote desktop

A few months ago after a upgrade some settings got messed up so I called Dell premium support who walked me through some gpo edits. The network works fine although my event viewer has the following errors: service control manager event id 7023 The Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service terminated with the following error: The requested resource is in use. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. and ipnathlp event id 32009 The Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service could not start because another program or service is running that might use the network address translation component (Ipnat.sys). This can occur when Routing and Remote Access is enabled. If this is the case, you must disable Routing and Remote Access before the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service can start. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. NOW FOR MY MAIN PROBLEM AND SYMPTOMS: My old PC's work fine. Users can Remote in without an issue. I just added 2 new PC's and I cant get remote to work on them. I was able to http://server/connectcomputer each box without a problem. Printers, network shares, exchange, internet access and business applications work without a issue. I enabled Remote on the server and in the computer properties. DHCP is leasing ip addresses to the boxes. I can PING my server. BUT... AND THIS IS WHERE I THINK MY PROBLEM IS... I cant ping the PC from my server. I can remote to the server. Another interesting symptom is windows firewall is not on any workstation AND the windows firewall icon is in my server. I have tried using VPN to connect to the troubled pc's from the server it work either. ANY CLUES? Thanks in advance Kevin

Did you also add the Users that you wanted to be able to connect to those Workstations? The only user that can connect to the newly added workstations by default would be someone with Admin permissions after checking the "Allow Users to connect remotely" check box. From: Kevin on 19 Jan 2007 22:43 I appreciate your input jeff but I am afraid this isn't going be 1 of those "check your cable" type resolutions. I have spent many hours looking at the 2 event log errors on google as well as spending days with dell premium support who ran this issue past microsoft. (assuming the ipnat / windows firewall issue is the root cause of this problem) I believe RRAS, IIS and GPO setting need to be reinstalled to default but that opens up a even bigger can of worms. From: "Jeff Teel" jdteel on 20 Jan 2007 13:37 If you have ISA installed and providing NAT and firewall services then you don't need Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service enabled on the server. The two won't work in tandom. It's one or the other. Do you not have a good backup to use?
