Am I just dense, or is there no KDE program shipped with Slackware 13.0
that will play a music or audiobook CD-ROM? In KDE 3.5, there was KsCD,
but that seems to be missing in KDE 4.2. I've looked at Amarok 2, JuK,
and XMMS, but none of them seem to be able to play CDs. I see that the
CLI program workbone is included, which may do the job, but I'm
surprised there's no simple CD player any more.

YARTAK.

(Yet Another Reason To Avoid KDE).

You aren't dense; there isn't one. I just downloaded the package

http://connie.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/vlc/pkg/13.0/vlc-1.0.5-
i486-1alien.tgz

and it works quite well. Just tell it to "Open disc" and point it to your
CD/DVD player.

It is not to everone's taste but the following should work:

mplayer -cache 2048 -cache-min 80 cdda://
mplayer -cache 2048 -cache-min 80 cddb:/

Restrict speed of cdrom
mplayer -cache 2048 -cache-min 80 -cdda speed=1 cdda://
Or download alsaplayer
or go to Freshmeat.net to choose among 1000 more players

Seems that KDE users don't use their own initiative a lot and confuse
slackware with KDE
