From: Tom Serface on 10 Jun 2010 11:29 One good thing about the forums is you don't have to scroll through a bunch of lines with: >>> in front of them to get to the bottom to see what you really wanted to read. I never understood "bottom posting" and now it's moot. My arrow keys will get a lot less exercise. From: Tom Serface on 10 Jun 2010 11:33 The interface that drops down the question part of the message (little down arrow to the left of the message subject) is quite useful so you don't really have to open it. Also there is info about how many people have viewed it, whether or not it is already answered (some people here could use that information) and the name of the last person who responded. For example, if I see the Giovanni responded to someone about an STL problem I can feel pretty safe that he's already taken care of the problem. I may read the response to see what he said so I can learn something, but it's nice to know the questioner is already in good hands :o) I'm not trying to be an advocate or anything, just trying to find some good in the change. Now that consumer Internet connections coming into homes don't have NNTP, I don't think people are really exposed to NNTP as much. Even the past several years, people have been consuming Google Groups with newsgroups in general. So I think the current generation of programmers might not know about NNTP or be expected to.
