In previous OSes there was another possibility: Transmission (a BitTorrent client) would sometimes overload the kernel enough to cause this behaviour. I thought this was fixed for 10.6.3, but if you're using Transmission you might want to try closing it to see if that helps. Steve

Next time the freeze happens, take note of the specific time, then I suggest you look at the /var/log/system.log to see what messages are in it with time stamps that match. Also take a look at the entries in the console log (/Applications/Utilities/Console) with time stamps that match. Also, it would be a good idea to install iStat Menus (link below). Then during the freeze, take note of the CPU usage indicated on the menu bar.
