From: jgus on 28 Apr 2010 22:13 I want to migrate an SBS 2003 Server to a new server running 2008 Standard. Exchange is moving to the cloud so no Exchange to migrate and no SQL. Basically just want to move AD to the 2008 Server to avoid having to deal with rejoining PCs to a new domain. What is the process for doing this? Does SBS 2003 allow me to simply join the 2008 server to the domain as a second DC, then migrate roles to 2008, and then demote the SBS server so it cleanly is removed from the domain? Or does SBS not play nice and allow this simple migration?

Since the SBS server must hold all FSMO roles for licensing reasons, you'll need to be aware that once you transfer those roles to your new DC, SBS will start shutting down after the grace period (7-days) passes. With that said, the process you outline will work fine in a healthy AD environment. -Cliff "jgus" <jgus(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:09904553-C6BA-4F6F-B1BF-A585B4709C6F(a)microsoft.com... > I want to migrate an SBS 2003 Server to a new server running 2008 > Standard. > Exchange is moving to the cloud so no Exchange to migrate and no SQL. > Basically just want to move AD to the 2008 Server to avoid having to deal > with rejoining PCs to a new domain.
