Hi, Gary.

Burke's first instruction says to:
> 1. Log in as the user who installed Quicken (the one with working
> sounds).

When you do that, HKCU (That's for the "CURRENT user".) should have that key
and it should be populated. You EXport that key (and its values). Then you
log out from that user account and log in with the user who does NOT have
sounds and IMport the values you just exported from the other user's HKCU.

But I've had time to do a little editing on my most-recent version of this
file; it is in the attachment. Please read my few notes at the top of the
file. They ARE important! And, I still haven't seen Q2010, so please
proceed with caution.

I have basically done the first part of what Burke instructed: I have
exported the working key. But then I edited the resulting file TO FIT MY
SYSTEM. As I've mentioned often (and at length) in this newsgroup, in my
system, I've installed Quicken into E:\QuickenW, rather than into the
default folder, which would be "C:\Program Files" in 32-bit Windows or
"C:\Program Files (x86)" in a 64-bit version of WinXP/Vista/Win7. So, I
edited each line that points to a .WAV (sound) file to say, for example:
@="E:\\QuickenW\\sounds\\qabitem.wav"

Most users will need to edit this to say:
@="C:\\Program Files\\sounds\\qabitem.wav"

But if you are running 64-bit Windows, you should edit it to:
@="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\sounds\\qabitem.wav"

Notepad's Replace command (on the Edit menu) should make it easy to find all
occurrences of "E:\QuickenW" and replace them with "C:\Program Files".

After editing the original file to fit MY system, I saved it as a plain text
file with the .reg extension. Then I simply clicked on that file in Windows
Explorer to execute the default action for a .reg file, which is "Merge".
This click merged my. reg file into my Registry. (Note that this action is
immediate and can't be undone - but we can re-edit the file and Merge a
corrected version in most cases.)

Let us know how this works out for you, Gary.

I have sounds in H&B 2008. I have turned them off because they are too
annoying.

Did everything you said and checked the registry values. They are all
as you gave but still have no sound on open although the wav file is
right where the registry points. Will reboot the machine and see if
that helps.

I've been turning off my Quicken sounds for years. That "ca-ching" when
hitting Enter *especially* drove me nuts.

I'm glad that users who like the sounds can get 'em back, though. :-)

Did you remember to enable sounds in the program? It's under Startup in the
Program preferences.
