Add ninety to that for me.

Lately (maybe 6 months) I've been asked for my zip every time I charge gas
with my (only) credit card, which is a Visa or Mastercard.

Some of them have a sign on the pump saying "If your ZIP [sic] contains

Yes -- I'm 90% sure

The ZIP codes in ny country are four digits plus two letters. I always
punch in the four digits plus one letter (as digit). Sometimes that
works (in that case I could probably have used any five digits), but
most of the time it doesn't.
