From: Raymond Toy on 16 Jan 2010 15:11 I have a firewire drive attached to a Blade 1000 that I want to be recognized on boot and have the filesystem (zfs) automatically mounted. But solaris never mounts it. I have to hotplug the drive for solaris to recognize it. And when I do that, solaris automatically mounts the filesystem. What magic do I need to get solaris to recognize the drive on boot? Ray

It has a zfs system on it, and I was able to copy many MBs (GBs?) of stuff to it just fine. The particular drive also has a USB 2 port, and that works just fine too. > > http://everything2.com/title/Sun+Blade+1000 > > You seemed to get good advise here > > http://www.howtofixcomputers.com/forums/sun/blade-1000-boot-disk-273740.h > tml > Uhh, most of those messages were written by me or are followups to my questions. :-) I guess I wasn't quite clear. I do have a FC disk that contains the OS. I just want the firewire drive to get mounted when the OS boots. It won't right now, but, as I said, if I reconnect the drive, Solaris sees the drive and I can manually mount it. Ray

I'm fairly current, but since I don't have a support contract, I didn't ask Sun, and I can't seem to get the recommended cluster patch either. Many thanks, however, for at least looking at this, Ray

Does Martin Paul's PCA report any relevant missing recommended or security patches? <URL:http://www.par.univie.ac.at/solaris/pca/> John groenveld(a)acm.org

This is usually done via some species of support contract. Sun sells software support in several different "sizes"; e.g. you can get access to SunSolve and patches with the least cost. The last time I looked, the lowest level of support cost $140/month. This was several years ago. Ask Sun about current prices. More money buys you e-mail support. Still more money buys you telephone support. For really BIG bucks you can get someone to come on-site and hold your hand. Support is also available from consultants not affiliated with Sun. These people charge all the traffic will bear. Sometimes they are worth what they charge!
