From: Peter Roussy on 6 Apr 2010 14:55 Well, I went int the BOIS and shut off the audio and the Lan (I left all of the USB on for now) and then I ran msconfig and took out everything I could from the startup tab. I am left with Avast (I tried to turn it off but it comes back), ipiont and itype (MS wireless kb and mouse), the Delta panel, BCU and NvCpl (again, tried but they came back). That brought the system processes down from 40 to 30 and now I can run at 64 samples and no pops. I will continue to trim but at least its working. I want to get the Lan and sound back if I can. I also ran the DPC Latency checker again. I am getting some wierd readings. If Reaper is running and I start it, I get readings just under 1000us but if I stop and restart the song in Reaper, the checker drops down to 8 or 9us with peaks up to maybe 50us. I know it still working because I inserted a synth while the song was running and noticed that the latency spiked to about 350us or so. I'll see if I can find it ... or maybe somebody can remember what it's called.

I've always had problems with Avast and find Microsoft Security Essentials works just as well if not better and without the bloat. I think you may need to go into safe mode to uninstall Avast completely. Best, Poly

The LAN should be no problem. I'd leave the sound off as it's somewhat notorious for causing problems. Have you considered a dual boot? Have one OS for audio oly and the other for hobby audio and internet etc. That's the only way I can do it here and good great performance on a bare bones install of XP. 17 processes and that could be trimmed to 15 if the main function of this box wasn't being a GigaStudio farm animal.
