Some are slated to close tomorrow and others over the next few months.

You may remember a few years back when AOL started offering Usenet access [compton ~]$ sepdate Today is Mon September 6117, 1993 (UTC) [compton ~]$ unleashing the Endless September - and when they finally killed off their own news servers and mailed all of their users telling them that groups.google.com was the replacement. Some users (and even some news servers) filter off posts with a 'googlegroups.com' string in the Message-ID: header just because of that. Old guy
