From: isw on 12 Apr 2010 12:58 I have an 18 MB PDF that I'd like to e-mail to a couple of friends. That's a bit large for a single attachment, so I thought I'd break it up. The whole document is 514 pages. I opened it up in Preview, and did a Print-to-PDF of the first 130 pages (about a quarter of it). The resulting PDF is 10.7 MB, more than half the size of the full document. Repeating with 65 pages (one-eighth of the full doc) gives me 5.4 MB, which is what I was expecting for a quarter of it. What's up with that? Isaac

Check to see how big the resolution is of the pictures in it, this is perhaps quite a factor in making up the size. If the person you re sending it to is going to view it on screen rather than printout over 500 pages, then exporting the whole show at a lower res will reduce the overall size, it can be dramatic. -- dorayme

PDFShrink is a nice utility for shrinking PDF file sizes. Don't recall if it's free or just low-priced, but worth looking at.

Just use <http://transferbigfiles.com/> and send the whole damn thing and be done with it. -- Tom Stiller PGP fingerprint = 5108 DDB2 9761 EDE5 E7E3 7BDA 71ED 6496 99C0 C7CF

The rest gets trashed.
