It occurs to me that maybe NONE of the 28 people who voted for ZA are willing to install the latest bloated version. ;) IOW - I may never get an answer. . . Would people please give me some input -> pick one of these options 1. continue to show the most recent version of ZA (we would need make sure it is NOT Nagware) 2. show an older version If sentiment is clearly in favor of an older version, we can stop worrying about the Nagware issue and start discussing WHICH older version should be shown. Thanks Rodney. :) An older version is my choice too. ------------ dunno if we're going to find the last free version of SoftCAT (I just did a tiny bit of scouting) - AFAIK this is what we're looking for: v 2.10 (2005-11-29) softcat_setup.exe 4788 KB 4.67 MB (4,902,283 bytes) Susan -- Posted to alt.comp.freeware Search alt.comp.freeware (or read it online): http://www.google.com/advanced_group_search?q=+group:alt.comp.freeware Pricelessware & ACF: http://www.pricelesswarehome.org Pricelessware: http://www.pricelessware.org (not maintained)

Isn't version 2.10, apparently still on the site, the last known freeware version? The download links are <http://www.fnprg.com/softcat/dl/softcat_v2_setup.exe> and <http://www.fnprg.net/softcat/dl/softcat_setup.exe> The two files have the same md5 and sha1sums, so I guess they are both 2.10.

I'm not ***100*** percent sure about that. IIRC the free vs. paid page disappeared - replaced by a "coming soon" note. . . so *mostly* what remained was "free trial" notices. . . This seems to be the most recent set the Wayback Machine has: http://web.archive.org/web/20060516083533/http://www.fnprg.com/ http://web.archive.org/web/20060530054520/www.fnprg.com/softcatplus/info.html http://web.archive.org/web/20060530054547/www.fnprg.com/softcatplus/download.html This is the page that went missing: http://web.archive.org/web/20060520164444/www.fnprg.com/softcatplus/freevsplus.html > The download links are > > <http://www.fnprg.com/softcat/dl/softcat_v2_setup.exe> and > > <http://www.fnprg.net/softcat/dl/softcat_setup.exe> > > The two files have the same md5 and sha1sums, so I guess they are both > 2.10. It seems to be the same file: the size matches the file I downloaded on 11/3/2006. v 2.10 http://www.fnprg.com/softcat/dl/softcat_setup.exe 4788 KB 4.67 MB (4,902,283 bytes) I started checking a little while ago. . . http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/SoftCAT/1010794491/1 SoftCAT 2.10.00 License: Freeware File Size: 4,787 KB http://fileforum.betanews.com/download/SoftCAT/1010794491/1 redirects to: http://www.fnprg.com/softcat/dl/softcat_setup.exe *NOT FOUND The file was moved from .com to .net and the copy that stayed was renamed. IMO that does not bode well for the future. I'd be a lot happier if we could find an off-site repository that has the file - dunno what the EULA for this version says but I IIRC free distribution was NOT allowed in years past.
