Have just so done.

Still has problems when playing in a window but plays right in full
screen mode.

The control for aspect ratios are clearer and work, unlike DVD player.

For some reason the "Get Info" shows 4:3

It was definitely a wide screen broadcast movie, 'cos it looks right on
my wide screen TV.

I guess somewhere in recording it and transfering to disc, the ration
got set incorrectly.

So that explains why DVD Player is playing it at 4:3 then!

Is it a commercial DVD (what aspect ratio does it say on the DVD case?)
or something you made yourself?

I recently had to view 16 DVDs which had been produced by various
production houses who were submitting their programmes for an award.
They had varying aspect ratios, although mostly 16:9. I found that I
needed both VLC and DVD Player to be able to view all of them.

Recorded myself from the TV. I guess the recorder has a setting
somewhere when I transfer to disc ......

Plays back OK from the recorder HDD to the TV.
