I can't get a wide screen (16:9) movie to play through iDVD onto my
iMac.

I can adjust the scaling vertically and horizontally so that aspect
rayio are correct but I can't adjust the window - it only seems to do
4:3.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Larry

iDVD - the DVD creation software, not DVD Player the playback software?
It's a while since I've used iDVD but from memory you have to decide
up-front whether you're working on a widescreen or 4:3 template - have
you selected a 4:3 template by any chance?

Cheers,

Slip of the keys - I mean DVD player.

Seems to only display a 4:3 window, although I can get a 16:9 movie at
the correct ration inside that window, with black band top and bottom

I can't see any obvious prefs that might affect the display like that.
But while the disc is playing, what does File > Get Disc Info show in
the Info tab? What does Help > Show Supported Features say?

Have you tried VLC? It sometimes handles widescreen rather better than
DVD Player.
