From: rick_s on 26 Jun 2010 13:44 When you were a child, did you ever read or get read to, the story Puss n' Boots? And story that contains talking animals in a real world, like Puss n' Boots children seem able to connect with well. Animals are more their size. And before you grow up, you may think that out there somewhere living under a hedge, are such families of animals. People have constructed dinosaur worlds, and all sorts of worlds that place animals in the same evolutionary tree branch as humans. Animal Farm the dystopian novel by George Orwell is another example perhaps geared for somewhat older kids. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_Farm And because of that connection, yes marketing companies do take advantage of that when marketing products for children. But kids love the stuff. Pretending and playing is what being a child is all about. But everyone can relearn how to pretend, and they will when right there is a world that looks very convincing in a flat panel screen on your desktop. Now they have those as entire walls already. But they are expensive. In 2004 they were being marketed to oil companies. http://www.qinetiq.com/home/newsroom/news_releases_homepage/2004/3rd_quarter/autostereo_3d.html Now the 23 inch models are already on the market being sold by numerous companies, and in China a large screen autostereo 3D no glasses required screen is already being sold in stores. Here is a little video in youtube which can be configured for all the types of different 3D that can be done today with the technology we have. At the bottom right, there is a menu item, that will allow you to convert the video to red and green glasses type 3D or any of the other formats. Keep in mind the autostereo type requires that type of monitor which is different than your monitor today. But you can use your monitor today, if you want to get some red and green glasses or whatever. I tried the cross you eyes method and it worked for me for a few seconds, which at least allows you, right now, to pretend, you can almost see your happy place from the window of the train. http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=6RFuRY7azgA&feature=related |
