So many good programs out there, so much noise in here. I suggest
prolonging the nomination phase with at least two weeks beyond the
currently announced date (27.september 2009), preferably a bit longer,
if - *and only if* you are willing to continue your good work!

Not suggesting this because I have not found the time to participate
much this year my self, but from observing the noise level and at the
same time thinking in general that a selection process of this kind
should ideally be left up and running for...well at least a couple of
months.

Good idea, Bjorn. Now if we could only get REM to cough up the
donations.

Yrrah, I think the number of socks in ACF hasn't changed much. Previous
Pricelessware selections have probably been just as badly plagued with
socks as this year. Perhaps it wasn't so obvious then.

I think a nym or sock is still able to nominate good freeeware. ("Bare
Bottom" recently seemed to make some sincere nominations and seemed to
have used the apps.)

The problem is if someone uses multiple identities to make both the
nomination and the seconding and then later fakes the number of
supporters of an app in discussions.

There doesn't seem to be much motivation for doing that other than
trying to damage the reliability of the Pricelessware list. Even then,
that would only benefit someone who might want to replace the PLW list
with his own.

Hmmm. Maybe I'm starting to talk myself into thinking there is a danger
after all!

I nominated Lightbox Free in mid:<7i2cvhF2uvc95U1(a)mid.individual.net>.

He who seconded it commented:

>I luv it and use it in the office. (gives one nagscreen on start up -
>asks if I want to use the free version - probably can be gotten rid of
>but not worth the hassle)

Indeed a nice program, but alas a nag screen on startup. Duh, I did
not think about this when I prepared my nomination, only considered
the value of the program for its features and ease of use. Haven't
payed much attention to the nag screen before either, probably since I
don't use this program as often I do my mail, browsers, text editors
and so on. Had the programs I use every day had similar nags...I would
have ended up with pen and paper instead... In short the nag-screen
did not enter my mind. But it has now. And so I am having second
thoughts. Ditto for a another program I submitted, in
mid:<7i2eg7F2t7j2jU1(a)mid.individual.net>, the VSO Image Resizer, which
also have been seconded. Also a very nice program per se, also one I
do not use very often....and unfortunately also one that comes with
nag on startup. Again, it simply did not enter my mind when I roamed
through my programs and prepared my submissions (I arrived late)...

So what to do? The nomination phase is over and the two programs have
been seconded. should I just hope that no one will vote for these two
programs , or just go ram my head against a wall somewhere? If the two
programs makes it, I guess my final option will be to argue and vote
against them under the ware ballot. That is if my head is still in one
piece when the time comes...

At this point, I'd say it's probably your call. I haven't tried
either program so it's difficult to judge whether they're nagware. You
can withdraw the nominations or leave things as they are for now and
see what happens. In any event, thanks for the heads up.
