I don't want it to run automatically. It needs to start manually. The
data will be stored to an external hdd and IMO it's unwise to leave it
plugged it since it's supposed to be a backup. If there's a lightning
strike and the external hdd is plugged in... you get the idea.

Does it work with a simple command? (After I've set it up to copy
certain files to the external hdd, which path is fixed to X:). In
FBBackup all you need to do is Action > Start and LaCie Backup will work
after a single click on OK. This is what I'm looking for.

Should be able to set up a shortcut that will do exactly what you want.
Only thing that might screw it (or any other program, for that matter)
up is if the external gets assigned different drive letters by Windows
if they use other USB devices (like a thumb drive).

Paragon is giving away a full featured backup program. It's a
no-brainer to use and can do simple backups as well as entire drives.
It may be overkill for what you want but it is *very* user friendly
and will even burn to DVD or CD if you wish.

Paragon Software is offering their Backup & Recovery 10 Compact
Edition Software exclusively to Techbargains
<http://www.techbargains.com> users for Free today through 6/19 (Exp
8am EST). Windows 7 and 64-bit Operating Systems supported.

During the Giveaway period Paragon Software provides technical support
through Twitter here. You can post any questions you have in regards
to downloading, registering and using the software. Paragon Softwares
support team will reply to you as soon as possible.

I use an earlier Paragon give-a-way (Drive Backup 9 Pro) and don't use
this version so YMMV. Everything that I've ever tried from Paragon
exceeds expectations.

Yes, Karen's Replicator can do precisely that. Once you have set up the
job/jobs then you can save shortcuts which will automatically run the
selected jobs when clicked. Screengrab of my setup here...

This is a built-in function, setting up such a shortcut?

Ok, Mark, I'll give it a try. The external /should/ get X: as a drive
letter; I've changed this in Disk Management.
