Hello Lee,

Thank you for your email. I'm sorry for the delay response due to the
weekend.

Since you install some 3rd-party software (Symantec Endpoint) on SBS, the
clean boot will make thing more clearly. Therefore, I suggest you try to do
clean boot on SBS to see if it help:

Note: This is a known issue about Symantec Antivirus. Therefore, I suggest
you uninstall any Symantec from SBS.

To clean boot the problematic computer, please use the steps below:
a. Click Start, click Run, and then in the Open box, type "MSCONFIG"
(without the quotation marks). Click OK.

b. In the System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) window, click to select
the Selective Startup button.

c. Click to clear the check mark from the "Load startup items" below
Selective Startup.

d. Click the Services tab, click to check the "Hide All Microsoft Services"
box, and remove all the check marks from the remained Non-Microsoft
Services. Please note that the Exchange services could be marked as
non-Microsoft. Please do not disable those services.

e. Click OK to close the MSConfig window. Click Yes when you are asked to
restart your computer in order to enable the changes.

f. After restarting, please check whether this issue will reoccur.

g. If there are no more problems, please use the above steps to enable
services and startup items one by one in order to figure out the root cause
of this issue.

If the clean boot cannot resolve this issue, please go to the following
steps:

After analyze your system event log (from MPS report), I find the following
errors:
===============
Event Type: Error
Event Source: RemoteAccess
Event Category: None
Event ID: 20151
Date: 1/21/2008
Time: 5:02:27 AM
User: N/A
Computer: FSSERVER
Description:
The Control Protocol EAP in the Point to Point Protocol module
C:\WINDOWS\System32\rasppp.dll returned an error while initializing. The
specified module could not be found.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: RemoteAccess
Event Category: None
Event ID: 20070

User: N/A
Computer: FSSERVER
Description:

c:\system32\rastls.dll module. The specified module could not be found.
=================

From the error logs, I suppose the RRAS is corrupted you unable to start
the RRAS service (Routing and Remote Access) on SBS. If the RRAS stop, the
Remote Access Wizard will fail. I suggest you perform the following steps
to repair RRAS on SBS.

1. Register following files on SBS:

Start ->Run and type
Regsvr32 msjet40.dll
Regsvr32 msjetoledb40.dll
Regsvr32 msjtes40.dll

2. Rebuild ias.mdb and dnary.mdb, Register "oledb32r.dll" and
"vbscript.dll" on SBS thru the following KB

You cannot start the Routing and Remote Access service on a Windows 2000
Server-based computer or on a Windows Server 2003-based computer
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=840686

3. The 3rd-party software may corrupted the following register keys:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\PPP\EAP\13]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\PPP\EAP\25]

ConfigUiPath
IdentityPath
InteractiveUIPath
Path

Please ensure the following keys are set to the following default settings:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\PPP\EAP\13]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\PPP\EAP\25]

ConfigUiPath REG_EXPAND_SZ %SystemRoot%\System32\rastls.dll
IdentityPath REG_EXPAND_SZ %SystemRoot%\System32\rastls.dll
InteractiveUIPath REG_EXPAND_SZ %SystemRoot%\System32\rastls.dll
Path REG_EXPAND_SZ %SystemRoot%\System32\rastls.dll

Then, reboot the SBS.

I hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

Hello Tom,

Thank you for posting here.

To ensure this issue is caused by the Symantec Endpoint Security on SBS,
you can try to disable it thru MSConfig on SBS, and test. If the issue
disappear after you disable Symantec Endpoint Security, you may need to
connect Symantec for further assistance. They may have workaround or
resolution for this issue.

If you still have any concern about SBS, please try to create a new post to
get help. This will lessen the confusion for both of us.

Thanks for your understanding.

Have a nice day.

Best regards,

From: Zman on
Terence, I want to thank you for the help. I now have RAS working. It was
indeed the Endpoint that changed some setting in my registry. I deleted
Endpoint Manager and registered the DLL's you suggetsted and I am now able to
start RAS.

From: Terence Liu [MSFT] on
Hello Zman,

Thank you for your update. I appreciate your time on this issue.

I'm glad to hear that things are working correctly for you now.

I'd like to make a summary for this post:

Issue:
=============
Unable to run Remote Access Wizard on SBS and get following error:

*** Configuring ports returned ERROR 8007007e
Specifying error location returned OK
*** CRRASCommit::CommitRRAS returned ERROR 8007007e
*** Committing RRAS returned ERROR 8007007e
*** CRRASCommit::CommitEx returned ERROR 8007007e

Cause:
=============
Symantec Endpoint corrupted RRAS

Resolutions:
=============
1. Uninstall Symantec Endpoint
2. Register following files on SBS:

Start ->Run and type
Regsvr32 msjet40.dll
Regsvr32 msjetoledb40.dll
Regsvr32 msjtes40.dll

Please do not hesitate to post in SBS newsgroup if you need any assistance
in the future. I look forward to working with you again.

Thank you and have a nice day,

Best regards,
