From: Russ (SBITS.Biz) on 12 Jan 2008 02:55 Was the server installed using all the Wizards? I found this from Crina Li ===================================================== Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup. I am sorry for the delayed response due to weekend. Please understand that the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals to answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is greatly appreciated! From the description, I understand that you encountered the startup failure of the RRAS service and can not reinstall RRAS. If I have misunderstood your concerns, please do let me know. Based on my research, the error 8007007e and 126 can be converted to the specified module could not be found. In order to narrow down the problem, please help to gather the following information: 1. Open Services console (services.msc), check the status of 'Remote Access Connection Manager'. Is it started? What's the startup type of this service? 2. How did you enable the RRAS service on the SBS server? Can I assume that you have used the 'Remote Access Wizard' (in Server management console) to configure the remote access? If not, please open RRAS console, disable the service and clean the settings. Open Server Management console, navigate to 'Internet and E-mail' snap-in. Click 'Configure Remote Access' to run the wizard. 3. Is there any tape device installed on the SBS server? Click Start, click Run, and then in the Open box, type "MSCONFIG" (without the quotation marks). Click OK. 2. In the System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) window, click to select the Selective Startup button. 3. Click to clear the check mark from the "Load startup items" below Selective Startup. 4. Click the Services tab, click to check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box, and remove all the check marks from the remained Non-Microsoft Services. Please note that the Exchange services could be marked as non-Microsoft. Please do not disable those services. 5. Click OK to close the MSConfig window. Click Yes when you are asked to restart your computer in order to enable the changes. 6. After restarting, please check whether this issue will reoccur. If the issue still occurs, please help me confirm the following information? 1. What edition of SBS you are using? Is it SBS 2000 or SBS 2003? Is it Standard or Premium? 2. Have you installed ISA on SBS? 3. Have you do any changes before the issue occurs? I am appreciated your time and look forward to hearing from you. From: Zman on 12 Jan 2008 22:24 Thanks for responding Russ. Yes I used the wizards for all setups. The Remote Access Connection Manager is in manual and is stopped. I did use the RAC wizard for config. It worked originally, but now it errors if I disable or try to reconfigure. I do not have a tape device installed. I am running SBS2003. I believe it is the premium version. How can I tell if I've installed ISA or not.( I am new to this op system). The only thing that could have caused this is installing Symantec Endpoint Manager and client on this machine. I will try a clean boot early next week when I'm back at the office. From: Terence Liu [MSFT] on 14 Jan 2008 02:33 Hello Customer, Thank you for posting here. Let's also thank Russ for the input. According to your description, I understand that you unable to run Remote Access Wizard on SBS and get following error: *** Configuring ports returned ERROR 8007007e Specifying error location returned OK *** CRRASCommit::CommitRRAS returned ERROR 8007007e *** Committing RRAS returned ERROR 8007007e *** CRRASCommit::CommitEx returned ERROR 8007007e If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know. First, please perform the clean boot on SBS to see if we can resolve this issue. If clean boot is no help, I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can resolve this issue: 1. The 'Remote Access Connection Manager' service on SBS should be started and be set to 'manually'. It is stop on your SBS. Therefore, please right click it and select Start command. Then, test this issue. If the issue persists, or you unable to start the 'Remote Access Connection Manager' service, please try the following steps. Note: If you unable to start the 'Remote Access Connection Manager' service, please capture screenshots on the error messages and send the pictures to me at v-terliu(a)microsoft.com 2. This issue may occur if the Internet Authentication Service (IAS) database is damaged. IAS and the Routing and Remote Access service use the IAS database. Please try the steps in the following KB: You cannot start the Routing and Remote Access service on a Windows 2000 Server-based computer or on a Windows Server 2003-based computer http://support.microsoft.com/?id=840686 3. Try to reconfigure the VPN on SBS: 1) Disable RRAS a. Schedule a network down time. b. Please open Routing and Remote Access console on SBS thru run command "rrasmgmt.msc" c. Right click the SBSname (local), select Disable Routing and Remote Access console 2) Run CEICW on SBS You have to rerun the CEICW to make sure your SBS 2003 server have right network configuration. Go through the follow KB and Rerun CEICW again carefully. How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825763/en-us 3) Run Remote Access wizard a. On the Small Business Server 2003-based server, click To Do List in the left pane of the Server Management console. b. Under Network Tasks, click Configure Remote Access. c. Click Next, click Enable Remote Access, click to select the VPN Access check box, and then click Next. d. Type the fully qualified public domain name (your public DNS name) of your server, click Next, and then click Finish. e. When the wizard is completed, click Close. 4) Then you can access RWW to download Connection Manager or copy the file from SBS server c:\ ClientApps\Connection Manager\SBSPackage.exe. Please save the sbspackage.exe file in VPN client computer. Then double-click SBSPackage.exe to run it. After this file run the "connect to small business server" will be created and you can use it to connect VPN to your SBS server. If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please help me collect some information for further investigation: 1. What error do you get when you run the Remote Access Wizard? Please capture screenshots on the error messages and send the pictures to me at v-terliu(a)microsoft.com 2. Please gather the icw log and rras log to me: a. The icwlog.txt file in the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Support" folder. b. The RRASlog.txt file in the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Support\" folder. 3. Gather MPS network report on SBS: a. Download MPSrepot_network from http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9 15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE b. Run MPSRPT_NETWORK.exe on the server box. c. The tool will automatically collect the information. This procedure will take 10~15 minutes. d. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder: %SystemRoot%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\Cab\ e. Send the .cab file directly to me at v-terliu(a)microsoft.com I hope these steps will give you some help. Thanks and have a nice day! Email from cusotmer: ======================= Terence, Thanks for the response on my Remote Access problems. I did the troubleshooting steps but still have the same problems. I still cannot start remote access. When trying to start from the To Do List on the Server Management Console, it allows me to put my FQDN in and the wizard doesn't complete. It has the following error: "An error occured while configuring remorte access for the Routing and Remote access service. For details see rraslog.txt, then rerun the Remote Access wizard again. I've attached the RRASlog file, the icwlog file, and the MPSRPT_Network report. I'm not sure but I installed the new Symantec Endpoint product and set this PC as the manager and client. I have since manually deleted the client do to network slowdowns associated with this. I did not try remote access prior to this but was able to use the RAS wizard. The Endpoint Manager is next to come off. We are a small business with 10 computers. This was a new and my 1st installation of SBS2003 and it could be something I have configured incorrectly. I did use the wizards for all installations. Exchange is working fine. I have not started using Sharepoint yet until I know I have a solid program setup. Thank you for your time and help. If there is anything else that you might need, let me know. Lee Zellner |
