Reading the OWC piede, doesn't it suggest (in the reponses) that you can
continue to use the old sensor, stuck onto the outside as before?

Or is that just wishful thinking?

I agree with you about the machine layout; my iG5 is one of the most
stunningly well laid out machines it's possible to imagine. Like a
diagram. It's a pity that the wish for a different case design led Apple
to spoil that.

Yes, this one has the sensor stuck to the drive. But even so, it insists
on running the fans at full pelt as soon as it's powered up. I'm running
out of ideas to be honest.

It is the sort of thinking that I'm wishing too. Having a fairly quiet
3.5" drive two feet from my face annoys me - I'd happily swap it out
for a really silent 2.5" or SSD.

There's no particular reason why it should have resulted in such a
mess, either. But there we go.

What's Activity Monitor got to say?

Could be a software issue - which OS version?

You should take a look at the old G4 towers - by the time they'd got to
the 1.25GHz 2G4 I had, they were just perfick, as far as accessing the
insides for adding/swapping parts.

And there's nothing easier to get into, either - ring pull opens the
door, there it all is.

Much easier to access than all iMac designs - much easier.

Actually, now I think of it, the original compact Macs were laid out
/beautifully/. And my Performa 475 is the neatest PC (inside the case)
that I've ever seen, ever.
