From: Master Lee on 16 Dec 2009 00:24 Hello All I have to replace my SAS controller card with a different card which of has different drivers but a case of the chiken or the egg. If I just replace the card it will not boot as there are no drivers. You must have had to overcome this what did you do? Any ideas something simple would good. Thanks, Lee
From: Paul Shapiro on 16 Dec 2009 06:43 Put the new card into the current system without moving the drives. Once the drivers are installed, shut down and move the drives. Reassign the system boot device, if necessary, in the BIOS. From: Master Lee on 16 Dec 2009 07:40 That's the problem the HA which is a 48300 which uses the pci-x has to removed to fit the replacement which is the 4800 I can not go against a basic law of physics two objects and can not occupy the same space. That is my dilema. From: Charlie Russel - MVP on 16 Dec 2009 10:43 Most PCI-x cards (but not all) will fit and work in a regular PCI slot. If so, you can do it that way. If not, your best answer is to replace the card and re-install. Run Windows Easy Transfer (WET) before you start, saving your data off to an external HD or a network share or some other place you'll be able to get at it after the change of HA. Now re-install Windows, re-join to a domain if you're in one, and then run WET again to pull back the data and settings. If this is a server OS, not a client OS, then there's an equivalent data migration toolkit. -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/blogs/russel "Master Lee" <vk5abcnospam(a)optusnet.com.au> wrote in message news:%23CtHszkfKHA.5608(a)TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > That's the problem the HA which is a 48300 which uses the pci-x has to > removed to fit > the replacement which is the 4800 I can not go against a basic law of > physics > two objects and can not occupy the same space. From: Master Lee on 16 Dec 2009 21:29 Thanks for your reply but the adaptec 4800sas card will only work in 64bit mode so will not fit a pci slot. Thaks away.
