I suspect "bad" isn't accurate, as much as perhaps a bit short-sighted and
abrasive (no offense intended.) It is easy to fall into the US mentality
where upgrading service is easy. In many parts of the world, everything is
metered, dynamic IPs are the norm (hence the importance of understanding
smarthosts and at least sending mail via a static IP) and thus taking steps
to throttle back even "important" traffic must be taken.

And when you simply come in and drop the hammer saying "upgrade, you are a
fool not to" ...people will react adversely to that, and negatively. Just
take it on the chin, shrug it off, and accept that you ruffled some
feathers. No reason we can't all get along.

Oh, come on, most of us are US based in this group, and while it's
frequented by people from Oz and other countries, there was nothing in
his post to indicate his country.

Just because Oz has a 6GB limit doesn't mean that it's acceptable.
People get changes by not accepting what companies want to force on
them.

Cliff, I specifically wrote, exactly copied:

"
6GB is nothing, you should get a better service.

Have you considered Windows Updates, Antivirus Updates, DNS queries,
WSUS updates, etc...?

I can do 6GB in a single day, from just one workstation.
"
No where in there did I suggest anyone is a Fool or Hammer anyone for a
6GB limit. It should also be noted, since you guys have missed it, there
was no country of origin listed in the post. If the OP had stated, I'm
in Oz and have a 6GB limit I would not have made the comment about 6GB
being nothing in the grand scheme - so some consideration for the lack
of country should be noted.

I don't know how a person can run a business on 6GB/month when you
consider service packs for XP/Vista/Win7, Office, antivirus updates, ISO
images, email attachments, downloading drawings/files from
customers.....

I'm as easy going as the next guy, but to call me out for 6GB when the
country wasn't specified in the OP's posts is just rude.

After busy season at the office I have to research to see if I have
options other than crappy AT&T dsl. I didn't the last time I looked around

No options isn't just an AU thing. And we shouldn't be US myopic so
much when it comes to bandwidth issues.

And that's where you and others appear to be thinking incorrectly.

From "MY" perspective, having customers around the world, having seen no
mention of Oz in the Op's post - notice that part again, there is no
mention of Oz anywhere in the op's post, my comment about 6GB is
accurate for MOST of the world and is not a stab in the eye or a slight
on their business decision. There are providers that have monthly caps,
there are providers that don't, there is no way to know until/unless a
poster gives some indication of their location in the world.

So, as for "Ruffled Feathers", maybe those that jumped to get ruffled
would take a look at themselves and see that the OP's post had nothing
in it to state geographical location.
