In this case they purchased the SBS2008 Standard and not premium so they
will need to purchase 2008 Server software. I agree on the internal 15
users with them not needing a TS cal with the LOB installed on the their
desktops and they can RWW into their desktops remotely. My bigger concern
is the 50 external users. Yes I can probably make a case where those 50
external users can be consolidated into about 15 unique devices with about
3-4 users at that device so I am thinking 15 ts device cals in addition to
the 2008 server license they need to purchase.

The one last question I'm not quite understanding..... these remote users
will be authenticating against the SBS when the remote in with the 2008
server as a member server. Do I need to cover SBS cals for them as well or
are they good with the server and 15 device cals.

If you go TS then you will need SBS user CALs as well.

OK, let's see if I have the numbers right

15 internal users (SBS2008 with 5 cals + 10 extra SBS std cals)
50 external users hitting the TS server via 15 unique computers (1 2008
Server, 15 TS device cals, 15 SBS device cals)

Do I have that right?

Just in case.... since these 50 external users don't have an internal
computer to RWW into I will need to go the TS route for their desktops so
they can access the LOB application. I'm thinking not but if I go the
device cal route then can each of these 50 external users have a unique SBS
login/email account on the SBS/E2k7?

Any other alternatives that I should look at?

Thanks cliff!

SBS as well as TS allow for Device Licenses or CALS, so speak with MS Licensing
as I described earlier.

Any advice you get here is not definitive, however well informed.

iirc, there is an upgrade from SBS 2008 standard to SBS 2008 Premium....????

Yes... the device CAL was specifically created to allow for "shift work",
where there are more users than computers.
