Prev: Win 7 can't join SBS 2008 - says OS is above MAX operating system
Next: server 2003 64bit will not let me "run" any programs.
From: Leythos on 24 Apr 2010 12:04 On two different installations of SBS 2008 I have, after weeks of use, gone in to an account and checked the enforce email quota option to find that when I apply the change it complains that the email address is already in use, there is no way to save the settings. If I click cancel the change is not implemented and the user will be unable to receive email from SOME internal users. In todays problem I was using the Support account, the local administrator account I created during the install, and when I unchecked the Quota Limit and then clicked APPLY it complained that the email account was invalid and already existed.... Nothing I could do would allow me to change the quota option from the wizard... So, being an idiot I opened the Exchange Manager, removed the email account, and now there is no User Account for "Support", not anywhere in ADUAC, nowhere.... So, I used the wizards to create a new Network Administrator account, called Support, same name, and was able to do all that was needed.... Until it came to sharepoint/companyweb - it seems that the new account, since it's a new SID, isn't liked at all by SharePoint - I can open the company web, add new objects, but I can not delete objects and can not add/remove users. SP Administration works fine.... I have recreated the Company web following the instructions at: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd548327%28WS.10%29.aspx But that didn't work... So I'm rebooting the server after doing a REPAIR of SP, using: C:\Program Files\Windows Small Business Server\Bin\CMPNENTS\WSS I didn't do the remove yet, just did the repair option.... I've had this happen (email address gets screwed in the wizards) on two different servers - once it was a "User" level account, this time it was the Administrator account. I unchecked the "email quota option" and clicked apply and it told me the email address was already in use, would not let me save anything as long as the user name as "support" (even though I've been using this for a week), and had to click cancel. So, opened the Exchange 2007 management console, removed the mail box for SUPPORT, then found that it actually deleted the ADUC account for Support, not the email box, the entire dang account. Once the account was gone, until I log out, I can still do things, so I created a new Network Administrator from the template, using the wizard, and called it SUPPORT, just like the one I'm logged in as, like the one I had been using since installing SBS. Restarted, logged in as support, things seemed to be find except from the company web I could not edit/add users, from the company web... So, I followed the MS instruction on ACCESS DENIED and it got worse, then I followed the instructions to uninstall SharePoint, as per the MS link, and the SharePoint (SP) config wizard failed in step 2, forced the reinstall of the SP service packs, rebooted, now it completes, but, it's broken, doesn't show anything, and the SBS SharePoint is not named SBS SharePoint in IIS Manager, it's just called SharePoint and does not have a local path that points to the proper share point location on the drive. Since they've not started using this server, since I have it set to do 4 backups per day, since it did a backup at 6AM, before I ran into this mess, I'm just going to do a bare-metal restore using the boot DVD and the backup from 6AM today. -- You can't trust your best friends, your five senses, only the little voice inside you that most civilians don't even hear -- Listen to that. From: Russ SBITS.Biz [SBS-MVP] on 24 Apr 2010 18:04 This is not in production? At this point I'd be tempted to flatten and start over. (In fact when you had to do the SBS install I'd have done a Flatten) It appears there is more than 1 thing wrong. I'd contact Microsoft, But a reinstall is only 4-6hrs away from a system that works Assuming you haven't moved data :( Sometimes giving up and starting over is easier than fighting.. :( Russ -- Russell Grover - SBITS.Biz [SBS-MVP] MCP, MCPS, MCNPS, SBSC Small Business Server/Computer Support - www.SBITS.Biz Question or Second Opinion - www.PersonalITConsultant.com BPOS - Microsoft Online Services - www.BPOSMadeEasy.com http://www.twitter.com/SBITSdotBiz "Leythos" <spam999free(a)rrohio.com> wrote in message news:MPG.263d25737cb83d1498a2f3(a)us.news.astraweb.com... > In article <AC6AECDF-B174-4A1D-85AE-771C3B968129(a)microsoft.com>, > russ(a)REMOVETHIS.sbits.biz says... >> >> Ok wow >> That is a lot to digest. >> you are saying in the SharePoint Admin Console (I forget the real name >> sorry) >> it won't let you add users? >> >> Have you posted to the partner site with this question? >> http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/partnerwinserversbs/threads > > I'm saying that I was using the SBS Wizard, logged in as Support, the > Administrator account, the one that you create when installing SBS. Once the Exchange interface deleted the "Support" user account I should have known better than to recreate the account using the wizards, I should have created a different named account and never used the Support account again. > But a reinstall is only 4-6hrs away from a system that works > Assuming you haven't moved data :( > Sometimes giving up and starting over is easier than fighting.. :( I'm going to restore from backup, since the firt thing I do after the initial install is backup, and I set the schedule for ever 6 hours 24/7, so it won't be too bad. -- You can't trust your best friends, your five senses, only the little voice inside you that most civilians don't even hear -- Listen to that.
