I've found Safari 5 to be unstable - it has brought down my entire OS on
a handful of occasions now, so I'm currently using Opera until we get a
bugfix.

I don't use Safari much, as I prefer Firefox 3.6.3, but on the few
occasiona when I *have* used it, and tried it on the BBC iPlayer (which
uses Flash) it's worked perfectly well, both in 10.4.11 (on an iG5) and
in 10.5.8 on a MBP, where it's better because the machine's a lot
faster. Again, I prefer Firefox, but the update and the operation are
perfectly trouble free.

I'm not sure why it should be giving trouble to some, but these things
do happen and as far as I can see from here, the Safari ungrade has been
generally trouble free.

If I were you, I'd use a real newsreader for real newsgroups, and use
the Google Web interface for non-Usenet Google Groups.

Nope, but:

If it's BBC iPlayer problems you're having, I find it's worth diving
into

~/Library/Caches

and - with the iPlayer *NOT* running - trash the folder with a name
like:

BBCiPlayerDesktop.61DB7A798358575D6A969CCD73DDBBD723A6DA9D.1

It's worked for me :-)

Hmmm! Could be, because I am back at work after two weeks paternity
leave, and my WXP + FF work machine is doing the same thing!
