Well, not really, it was pretty bloody obvious from here. But what would
I know, I don't understand people.

Oh yes.. almost forgot the smiley

;-)

Check the charter for this group. Since you created this group, something
for which we're all deeply indebted to you, why didn't you include
something on the proper use of smilies? :)

/humour on/
What a wonderful idea. What about using this format to alert the
humour-challenged curmudgeons who don't understand or like people?
/humour off/

You're being deliberately pig-headed and obstructionist again. You have
misinterpreted everything. Do you have any proof?

In your case, you are an idiot most of the time. :)

inside knowledge? I have never (to the best of my knowledge) heard from
either of these posters before.

there is no background info, it is how it reads!

I know you don't. As I said before, your reading of things doesn't show
understanding.

I know, you don't need to remind anyone. That wasn't serious. As almost
anyone else would know.

No, but ISPs in the US don't typically carry the lower-volume groups in
uk.*, and I had a job and a social life so gaining access to a
parochial Usenet group was never a priority for me.

"Graphite" was Apple's name for these cases; dark grey (to my eyes
slightly greenish, but certainly not a bright blue like the previous
Power Mac models) and lighter grey on the sides and handles.

This is the same model mine is (although mine now has a 1GHz chip and a
faster graphics card); it's not quite the first G4 model: there was one
with a slower motherboard and PCI graphics that is colloquially
referred to as the "Yikes!" model, but was only briefly available.

Thanks for the offer, it's much appreciated. But after some
soul-searching, I have decided that this is a good moment to declare my
Mac dead. It's been my main computer for 10 years, but I just bought a
MacBook Pro, and the future as a 24/7 torrent server that I had in mind
for the G4 is not practical for my current living situation. If I fixed
it up it would just go in the parents' loft, and I'm supposed to be
clearing that out not adding to it at the moment.

So I'm going to strip the G4 for resellable parts, I think. There's an
Airport card and some PC-100 RAM that somebody might want, and possible
the processor and graphics card. Binning the carcass will be painful.

I have no pre-PPC Mac bits, but I do have a SCSI scanner and CD writer
to get rid of - drop me an email if you're interested. Thanks again!
