Pretty much. The phones transmitter will be answering back at high power causing the battery's terminal voltage to sag slightly. The firmware (hopefully not hardware but who knows?) interprets this as an immanent flat battery and shuts the phone down. Interesting discussion. My S2 regularly turns itself off, even when the battery is near full and it is in Central London (i.e. no problem with signal strength). JP
