From: Don on 14 Nov 2009 11:34 , and IE 7.0. My computer is extremely slow in opening any program. For example, when I open Outlook Express, the program partially loads (display only shows part of the normal image) and takes about one minute to fully load. I am running Windows XP Home Edition (with SP3) on my desktop with 1 GB of RAM. I have taken all the steps I know of to correct the problem with no success: 1.Eliminated unnecessary startup programs, 2.run disc defrag, 3.deleted temporary internet files and cookies, 4.run Norton Internet Security 2010 and SpyBot, 5.Run disc cleanup. I have run out of ideas. Can you offer some detailed suggestions, please? -- Don
From: db on 14 Nov 2009 11:41 perhaps, the virtual memory is a problem insufficient vm can cause issues with performance. you might also want to test performance in safe mode with networking. the ms applications should function and you can also access the internet. -- db·´¯`·...¸><)))º> DatabaseBen, Retired Professional - Systems Analyst - Database Developer - Accountancy - Veteran of the Armed Forces - @Hotmail.com - nntp Postologist ~ "share the nirvana" - dbZen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > "Don" <Don(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:718E8DA0-0173-44C1-8606-5ED0094F0541(a)microsoft.com... > , and IE 7.0. Can you offer some detailed suggestions, please? Just a guess, but you may be infected with spyware. Spybot Search and Destroy is *not one of the better anti-spyware programs. I recommend running both MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and SuperAntiSpyware, both available as freeware. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP (Windows Desktop Experience) since 2003 Please Reply to the Newsgroup |
