Thinking of getting a 'smart phone', but need some *basic* advice as to how
it all does/doesn't work.
Reception, 3g, e mail, web etc
Does anyone know of a website that can tell me?

Thanks - some useful stuff, but ........... can you do any web browsing or e
mailing without a 3g signal? Or would it be tediously sloooow?

Yes. I've switched 3G off on my E61 and got a massive improvement in
battery life as a result. I can't tell the difference in speed with
email [as the phone downloads the emails before I read them, not on
demand]. Web browsing is slow, but I rarely do it so I don't really
care. Turning off images may help in this regard. Actually I think on my
phone the CPU may be a more significant bottleneck for fat web pages
than the network connection is. Any contemporary phone shouldn't suffer
from this problem.

Tedious is, of course, a matter of opinion.
