So far all of the standalone DVD players I've purchased have been hackable, usually through the so-called Engineer's Codes. For one of them (a Sony) I had to resort to a universal remote rather than the device's remote, but all were doable. I'd be surprised if this one wasn't. I would have thoguht so. Her previous all in one lcd screen dvd player I bought in canada. I went from the shop to a local coffee shop, writing the model numbers down, and then used the shops wifi to look up if I could region unlock them. I got her one of the ones I liked that you could do that. When we got back to the uk, downloaded the patch, put it on a CD, started up the player, selected menu, it asked me what region I wanted, or if I wanted no lock. -- Woody

Do you still have it out of interest as there are several 'other' ways to get XP on a laptop without using a CD? Cheers, T i m

I hadn't realised how bad until he brought it home. His flat was broken into on the night he finished his PhD (and went out celebrating) and his Win98 laptop was taken (they left the floppy with the backup of his PhD - he *did actually listen after all). he had new for old insurance cover on it - but what he got was the same 128 MB RAM with XP. On top of that he - or was it his wife? - managed to get it heavily infected and that was the reason for trying to re-install XP. Paint drying was fun. He put it in recycling. -- duncank
