In a world of 20 years ago you mean when things were built to be
repairable.

Only by the container full it seems (unless you can find a car DVD
player you can nick the drive out of).

What would be wrong with an external DVD player (rather than
'replacing the telly')?

p.s. When we got our UMC FV TV / DVD player I viewed the DVD player as
a temporary bonus.

Well, they also cost the amount too!

Maybe that is an option.

Becasue it is another thing to have. This is her telly/dvd player that
she has in the bedroom. I am sure we have an old DVD player around
still, just not as neat.

I mean it doesn't really matter much at the moment, as she is watching
stuff on her archos, but it seems a shame to have a telly that is
otherwise not going to get used.

That is because of your use. She wanted a DVD player with something to
see it on, so a TV is of no use to her if it can't play DVDs.

Indeed.

Unless you could get confirmation from the manufacturers that they
were the same then it might be an expensive experiment (might be worth
dropping them a line though. I have been lucky with companies sending
me stuff (often foc) that wasn't technically available as a spare as
such).

Ah, I forgot it was you. ;-)

True. Plus I don't like having to play lucky dip re trying to find the
DVD slot round the side of the TV (so use an external one anyway). I
guess that's the price you can pay for all_in_ones, that and one bit
goes down and it can write the whole thing off (in Sabs case etc).

Will you get it in the cupboard with all that other kit though? ;-)

Certainly not just Woody. One of the reasons people are here is that
they get Macs to avoid the clunky stuff.

Well, all you need is transport controls and digital output, so it
should be easy enough to find.

Don't get you? I suggested that to her, she wasn't keen. There isn't
much room there.

Never really had much trouble with that, it is pretty easy to find!

it really depends on your use. If you have the space, it isn't an issue.

I already have a monitor in there, that would have to go in the loft, or
better still the skip.
Actualy not, I would probably keep it as it is pretty good as a telly,
if I needed one of those
